Book exerpt - Filling the space within - the inside job of clutter and disorganization

Within us exists a space that, if not naturally filled with good, nurturing self acceptance, tends to get filled with something else. The problem with filling it or attempting to fill it with something else is the insatiable nature of the space.

Some people attempt to fill it with drugs or alcohol; some people fill it with food and others still with relationships. Then there are those who attempt to fill this space with things or a combination of the above. Call it what you like; retail therapy, a great sale, inheritance, valuable memorabilia, when taken to the extreme or done without real consciousness it is an issue when your life becomes unmanageable.

The symptom is clutter and disorganization, the underlying issue is the unfillable space, the overall effect is unmanageability. This overall effect is just that, overall. It affects every area of your life from the cluttered junk drawer to sleep habits to relationships.
